it is one sixtieth because if you split it into 8 groups ... you are dividing them into 1/8ths umm i dont know how to explain it... 1/16=1/8 it is divided by 8 so 8 sections and then i divided them into little pieces and the first one was 1/16th'

ReplyDelete4/8 divided by 8 is 1/16 because 4/8 is the same as 1/2. If you were going to divide 1/2 into eight pieces, four of the pieces would go into 1/4 because 1/4 is the half of 1/2 and 4 is the half of 8. You could further split 1/4 into 1/8s since 1/8 is half of 1/4 and 2 people each would share an eighth because 2 is the half of 4. You now have 2 people sharing 1/8 of a piece. To get to 1 person, you divide 2 by 2, therefore you also divide 1/8 by 2 which is 1/16.

ReplyDeleteI know it equals 1/16 because instead of using a diagram I figured out another way to do it. You take the denominator which in this case is 8 and multiply that by the whole number which is also 8 and you get a sum of 6. Next, you take that 64 and divide that by the numerator which in this case is 4. So, 64 divided by 4 is 16 and that's how I got the answer 1/16

ReplyDelete4/8 divided by 8 is equal to 1/16 because when you break 4/8 into equal parts the parts are 1/16 each.
4/8 ÷ 8/1
=4/8 x 1/8
=4/64 (4x1=4, 8x8=64)
=1/16
If not simplified, it would equal 4/64 but when you simplify it then you get 1/16.

4/8 x 1/8 = 4/64 = 1/16
*Note: When you divide, you change to multiply and invert or flip the second fraction.
You do 8x8 divided by 4 to get the answer.

Because your supposed to multiply the whole number and the denomantor=64 and divide it by 4 so it equals 16=1/16
