Thanks for Sharing
Sevens!! Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts and answers with me today. You gave some interesting and honest answers. Please remember to start your comments with your name. You can become a follower of our blog if you have a gmail account. Check with your parents to make sure it is alright with them if you want to get an account. They can also become followers too.
I had a great time getting to know you better today in class and on the baseball field. I can tell you are a group that works well together.
I was thinking that it would be interesting to have a 'big idea' to tie together many of your contributions to the school and community over the next year. It would be nice if this was tied to a legacy that you want to leave at our school. One example for this could be focused around fitness or healthy living. This would tie to a Halloween for Hunger event, something connecting to the fitness value in dancing for your dances and intramurals that you could run for younger grades and a healthy lunch day like subs that some of you mentioned in your comments. If you do some Me to We events, you could connect them to this 'big idea' as well.
Anyhow, I'm excited about the next 12 months, and as you get ideas, please post them in a comment on our blog.
(I promise I'll try and see what we can do about making history more interesting for many of you, and I hope that my love of math helps to make some of it easier to understand and less 'boring':)
Mrs. F.
p.s. I liked your submissions for names for our blog. I'll take suggestions until June 21st and I'll buy the winner a healthy lunch.
p.s.s. If one of the individuals who said that they really liked drawing was interested in creating a logo for our grade 8 blog, I think that would be really cool!!

Welcome!!
Greetings Future Grade 8's!!
I am excited to be creating this blog space for us to communicate with in the upcoming year. I am PUMPED about teaching you all next year, as I know you are an outstanding group of individuals! I love teaching grade 8 and am looking forward to our time together. When I heard I would be teaching grade 8 again, the wheels in my head quickly started turning about all the amazing things we will do together (believe it or not, I've actually started thinking about your graduation)!
Grade 8 is a special year. For many of you it marks your 10th year here at our school (which has a special place in my heart as it was my elementary school as well). Even if you haven't been here for all ten years, I have no doubt that you have already formed many lasting memories from the time you have spent here. Grade 8 is a unique time when you get to enjoy your final year as the 'big fish' in our lovely little pond, but you also have an important role in helping to form those important memories for the younger students at the school. In addition to those two important things, you will also be completing your final preparations for beginning your highschool careers! I especially enjoy working with grade 8's to transition to grade nine.
Slowly, this year's grade 8's have been handing over responsibilities around the school to you, and you have done a wonderful job as you've taken up these responsibilities. I am looking forward to getting to know each of you better and learning what your personal talents and passions are and helping you to put those talents to use in our school and community. Over the next few months I would like you to think about the legacy your class wants to leave here at our school. I will post topics for us to discuss and share ideas about. I am hoping that we can form a number of different groups to help yourselves, the school, and the community around us.

Tell me about you.
I would like to know more about you. Please add your comment to this post.
Begin with your first name and last initial.
Tell me:
1. Do you have any brothers or sisters that go to our school,
2. What your 2 favourite school memories are,
3. What your 2 favourite subjects are at school, and why,
4. If you could get rid of one subject for grade 8, what would it be and why,
5. What is something you really like about yourself,
6. What is something you really want to get better at?
After you answered these questions, choose to submit them 'anonymously' then click 'preview' and enter the verification letters. Your post will only be visible to me this time.
In the interests of being fair, i'll answer the questions first.
Mrs. F.
1. My brother and sister and I all went to school here, and many of you know that I bring 2 kids to school here each day.
2. My 2 favourite school memories are, winning the senior girls 3-pitch tournament in my grade 8 year (yes the tournament was around back then!), and taking part in the Terry Fox Run when I was quite young (maybe grade 2), and getting to spend time with my older buddies while we were doing the Run.
3. In grade 8 I loved physical education because I like playing games and I liked math (I came a long way here - I got a D in grade 5 math- I had trouble with multiplication and division). I got a boost of confidence in my math skills after I won a math award for a test we wrote in grade seven. Now I love teaching both of these subjects!
4. I think I would have chosen geography. We had to make a lot of maps back in my day, and memorizing things was not a skill I had back then (this may have been a big part of my multiplication and division problem in grade 5).
5. I like that I can usually stay pretty calm in situations that sometimes stress people out. This can help by not getting others around me worked up.
6. I need to improve my organization skills. I can find things pretty quickly but it doesn't always mean my desk looks neat and tidy!

What are your ideas?
Tell me about some of the responsiblities (outside of regularly completing their schoolwork and homework) that you think that grade 8's have around the school and in our community.
Feel free to include things that you've already seen the 8's doing and things that you think we might be able to do.
